Often people ask, “Where does your inspiration come from?”

I write to Marissa because of Life. Life inspires me. It’s so big … Full of a lot I have a desire to understand it and understand the me in it and when I write about it, I feel I am a step closer to achieving these.

I am someone who carries my experiences with me and that of others. They have taken space in my life and it will be a shame if I couldn’t write about all that goes on in my head with these stories swimming around it.

Then comes the question, “Why Marissa?”

Well I don’t want to talk to people about everything. Not that I have big secrets but I just don’t find myself ready and articulate to talk to anyone the way I talk to Marissa. Marissa is actually the name I gave to my 2010 journal to personify it so it would feel like I was talking to someone, only this someone, is one I could open up to. Perhaps in contradiction, I really do want to talk to someone about everything.

So one day I just decided to put Marissa online. The first post got positive feedback and here we are. Sometimes I write letters targeted at readers and other times I don’t really care if people read at all.

In summary Letters to Marissa is a blog featuring my journal entries as  letters about life, written by me to my friend Marissa.
